ALEF Selects Fellows for its Seventh Year (The Shewey Family Class)

Fred Shewey was a well-known business man who was greatly respected for his character and his commitment to helping young men and women from across West Virginia. This ALEF class will honor the memory of Mr. Shewey and all he has done assisting the citizens of our State.

“Fred Shewey has been a role model for all of us. He was always a person of great principle. Fred never hesitated to help those who needed help. I hope our Fellows all grow up to be just like him,” said General Doc Foglesong, President of ALEF.

The Fred Shewey Class is composed for ten outstanding young men and women who have extraordinary academic records, have great character, and have demonstrated the potential to become leaders in our communities and in our businesses. These Fellows come from across the State and will undertake majors with our partnering universities that will allow them to migrate to senior positions that will help shape future public and business policies. “

Another strong class for ALEF, this is an incredible group of smart, articulate, committed young men and women who will make a difference in their professional lives,” Foglesong said.

The 11 new Fellows include:


Kayleena Blankenship
Concord University
BlankenshipKayleena Blankenship is from Gilbert, WV and will attend Concord University. She will major in secondary education and hopes to become an English teacher in West Virginia. Kayleena was very action in high school in both community volunteer services and various school organizations. She was a member of the National Honor Society and won numerous awards for her writing skills. Her grades were extraordinary and she will receive academic scholarship assistance as a result of her hard work. 

Shea Booth
Concord University
Shea BoothShea Booth will attend Concord University and major in accounting. He is from Ballard, WV. Shea had extraordinary grades and finished second in his class and in the top 1.5% of the graduates of James Monroe High School at Westside High School. He was active in numerous school and community activities and is the recipient of several other academic scholarships.

Taylor Brown
Concord University
Taylor BrownTaylor Brown is from Glen Fork, WV and will attend Concord University. She graduated from Westside High School will major in elementary education. She had extraordinary grades and graduated number one in her class. Taylor was very active in school and community activities to include the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the National Honor Society, the Student Council, and in her church. She won many academic and service awards and was very active in athletics.

Callie Burdiss
Concord University
Callie BurdissCallie Burdiss graduated from Wyoming East High School and will attend Concord University. She will be an education major and is from Mullens, WV. Callie was active in a variety of activities to include the Fellowship of Christian Athletics and several other programs. She was engaged in many volunteer service activities. She received the Wyoming County Service Award.


Jordan Butts
Shepherd University
Jordan ButtsJordan Butts is from Bunker Hill, WV and will attend Shepherd University. He will major in biology and pre-medicine. Jordan attended Musselman High School where he graduated in the top 4% of his class of 335 graduates. He had extraordinary grades and was very active in both school and communities events to include the 4-H, the National Honor Society, the Fellowship of Christian Athletics, and he attended WV Boys State. Jordan received numerous awards for athletics to include selection to the WV Boys All State Soccer Team. He also received numerous academic scholarships in addition to this ALEF Fellowship.


David Chaney
Shepherd University
David ChaneyDavid Chaney graduated from Hampshire High School and will attend Shepherd University. He will be biology major. David is from Capon Bridge, WV. He had extraordinary grades and graduated in the top 6% of his class of 247. He was active in many school and community organizations to include the National Honor Society and the FFA where he was President of the Northeast Region. David won numerous awards for his state and national service to the FFA. He has several other academic and service scholarships in addition to the ALEF Fellowship.

Hannah Growe
Concord University
Hannah GroweHannah Growe is from Pineville, WV and will attend Concord University. She will major in biology and graduated from Wyoming East High School. Hannah was an extraordinary student and graduated number one in her class. She was very active in volunteer service in her community and won numerous academic and athletic awards to include the Wyoming East Student of the Year Award. Hannah was a member of the National Honor Society, the student council, and many other school organizations. She received several other academic scholarships in addition to the ALEF Fellowship.

Ronald Trey Lockhart
Concord University
Ronald Trey LockhartRonald Trey Lockhart graduated from River View High School where he graduated number one in his class. He was a very active athlete and participated in football, basketball, and baseball. He was active in numerous other school and community events and organizations to include the National Honor Society, American Legion Boys State, the Key Club, Upward Bound, Bible Club, and Gear Up. In addition to the ALEF Fellowship, Trey has several other academic scholarships. He will attend Concord University.

Jessica Morrison
Concord University
Jessica MorrisonJessica Morrison is from Chauncey, WV and will attend Concord University. She will major in biology. She graduated from Logan Senior High School. Jessica was an extraordinary student and graduated number two in her class. She was a member of the National Honor Society, the Key Club, and was co-editor of the school newspaper. She was a very active volunteer in her community in eight different service organizations. Jessica won more awards than we can list for her work in school and in her community. She also will receive numerous scholarships.

Emily Rogers
Shepherd University
Emily RogersEmily Rogers graduated from Martinsburg High School and calls Martinsburg her home. She will attend Shepherd University and major in nursing. She had extraordinary grades and graduated in the top 3% of her class of 418 seniors. Emily was very active in school activities where she was a member of the National Honor Society, the student council, and was Captain of color guard for the band. She received several other scholarships in addition to the ALEF Fellowship.
Joseph Wickline
Shepherd University
Joseph WicklineJoseph Wickline is from Lewisburg, WV and attended Greenbrier East High School. He graduated in the top 4% of his class of 270. Joseph will attend Shepherd University and will major in environmental chemistry and biology. He was very active in school activities to include the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the National Honor Society, the Fly Fishing Club, and track and field. Joseph was also very active in community service where participated in numerous events and with many different organizations. He will receive other scholarship in addition to this ALEF Fellowship.
