ALEF Selects Its Thirteenth Class of Fellows
The Appalachian Leadership and Education Foundation (ALEF) has completed its selection process for the 2018 ALEF Mike Class. This is the thirteenth year that ALEF has put together a group of young men and women from West Virginia who have extraordinary leadership, academic, and social skills and who have great potential to be the leaders in our communities, in government, and in our businesses. Each new Fellow exhibited the core values ALEF espouses – integrity, excellence, and service.

Micah Bates is from Fayetteville, WV and graduated from Fayetteville High School. He will attend Concord University and major in geography. Micah has excellent grades and participated in both community service and student athlete activities. He was captain of both the high school basketball and track teams and served as the vice president of the student government. He is an Eagle Scout and was a member of the National Honor Society.
Chase Brown will attend Concord University and be an education major. He’s from Colen Fork, WV and attended Westside High School. Chase had excellent grades and was a member of the National Honor Society and numerous other high school organizations to include student government, Hi-Y, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
 Tabby Collins is from Switzer, WV and attended Logan High School where she was number one in her class with outstanding grades. She will attend Marshall University and major in nursing/pre-med. Tabby was active in numerous student organizations including the National Honor Society, the Spanish Club, and the STEM Club. She was also very involved in community service.
 Nancie Harmon will attend Marshall University and major on bio-medical engineering. She is from Prichard, WV and graduated from Spring Valley High School. Nancie has outstanding grades and was deeply involved in community service. She was a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. She was also involved with numerous high school activities that contributed to her professional development.
 Makayla Kelly is from Princeton, WV and attended Princeton Senior High School. She will attend Concord University and will major in secondary education. She had exceptional grades and was a member of the National Honor Society, involved in student government, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and a highly talented and respect member of the high school band. Makayla was also heavily engaged in community service. .
 Stephanie McCloud graduated from Logan High School and will attend Marshall University. She is from Peach Creek, WV and will major in pre-med. She was a member of the National Honor Society, the Beta Club, the Key Club, and numerous other high school organizations. Stephanie had superb grades and was deeply involved in community service.
Nathan Nichols will attend Concord University and major in business administration. He’s from Bluefield, WV and graduated from Bluefield High School. He had outstanding grades and was a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, participated in student government, the Debate Club, the Science Club and was an All State member of the high school band. Nathan went to Boys State and was engaged in numerous community services activities.
 Courtney Stewart is from Justice, WV and graduated from Westside High School. She will attend Concord University and is undecided about her major. As with all ALEF Fellows, Courtney has extraordinary grades. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Hi-Y in addition to numerous other high school organizations. She was involved in numerous community service activities.
 McKenna Sunderland will attend Marshall University and major in business and English. She is from Charleston, WV and attended South Charleston High School. Her grades were outstanding. She went to Girls State, was a member of Beta Club, the Spanish Club, and the student government. McKenna was also engaged in many community service activities.
 Kyle Toler will attend Marshall University and major in sports broadcasting. He is from Gilbert, WV and graduated from Mingo Central High School. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Beta Club. Kyle was deeply involved in community service and service to his high school as a member of numerous organizations.
 Destiny Tomblin is from Logan, WV and graduated from Logan High School. She will attend Marshall University and will major in psychology. She had excellent grades. Destiny was a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Spanish Club, and the STEM Club. She was deeply involved in community service and other high school organizations.
