ALEF Selects Its Twelfth Class of Fellows
The Appalachian Leadership and Education Foundation (ALEF) has completed its selection process for the 2017 ALEF Lima Class. This is the twelfth year that ALEF has put together a group of young men and women from West Virginia who have extraordinary leadership, academic, and social skills and who have great potential to be the leaders in our communities, in government, and in our businesses. Each new Fellow exhibited the core values ALEF espouses – integrity, excellence, and service.

Anna Craft is from Prichard, WV and attended Spring Valley High School. She will attend Marshall University and major in Secondary Education. Anna had extraordinary grades in high school – she never had anything below an “A” -- and was active in numerous school organizations to include the BETA Club, the Spanish Honors Society, and the National Honor Society (President). She was also very active as a volunteer in the community with the Huntington City Mission and the Ronald McDonald House.
Caroline Kayes is from Martinsburg, WV and will attend Shepherd University. She graduated from Martinsburg High School and will major in Biology/Pre-Med. She graduated at the top of her class. Caroline was President of the National Honor Society, Vice President of the Art National Honor Society, Captain of the High School Dance Team, and was a member of numerous high school organizations to include Key Club, the Student Council, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She was also involved in numerous community volunteer programs
Rachel Mankins will attend Concord University and major in Biology. She is from Fayetteville, WV and graduated from Fayetteville High School. She graduated first in her class. Rachel was Captain of the Cheerleading Team, on the varsity basketball team, Treasurer of the Student Body Government, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletics, and a member of the Key Club. She was very active in community service.
Kyle Porter is from Logan, WV and graduated from Logan High School. He will attend Marshall University and major in Civil Engineerng. Kyle was a member of the Logan High School basketball team and the National Honor Society. He has excellent grades.
 Stephen Price is a sophomore at Concord University and majors in business admission and accounting and finance. He’s from Fayetteville, WV and attended Fayetteville High School. He had excellent grades in high school and continues to have superb grades in college. Stephen was a scholar athlete and participated in basketball and baseball all four years in high school. He was also a member of the National Honor Society, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, student government and numerous other high school organizations.
 Taylor Schweinebraten is from Martinsburg, WV and attended Martinsburg High School. She is currently a sophomore at Shepherd University where she is majoring in biology. She is an extraordinary student with a superb GPA. Taylor is also a cheerleader for the University and a member of the Biology Honor Society. While in high school, she was very active in community service, a member of many school organizations, and an active athlete. Taylor also was the recipient of numerous awards.
Nickolas Shrewsbury will attend Concord University and major in Accounting. He is from Princeton, WV and attended Pikeview High School. Nick was Captain of the high school football team and Class Commander of the Junior ROTC unit. He was also a member of several other high school organizations and had superb grades.
Morgan Thomas is from Mingo County and graduated from Westside High School. She will attend Concord University and major in Pre-Pharmacy. Morgan was Captain of both the basketball team and the volleyball team and was selected as the female athlete of the year. She was a member of numerous other organizations to include the National Honor Society. She received numerous awards and participated in many community activities. Morgan had outstanding grades throughout high school.
 Syerra Wilson is a sophomore attending Marshall University. She is majoring in nursing. Syerra attended Spring Valley High School in Huntington, WV. She has a superb GPA and has been accepted into the Marshall University nursing school. Syerra was very active in high school in her JROTC program and held numerous leadership positions. She was also very active in community service and received numerous high school awards.
